An untreated cavity will only get worse and can lead to the need for root canal therapy if the decay reaches the center of your teeth. It’s important to have a dental cavity filled as soon as possible to avoid tooth abscess and extensive dental treatment. A dental filling can often repair a cavity, but after having the filling placed, you will need to take certain steps to care for it.
After receiving a dental filling, take care with the foods you eat and don’t eat anything while your mouth is still numb or else you could damage your tongue or teeth. Allow your mouth to heal for a few days before biting down on your filling. A healing tooth could also be aggravated by hot and cold drinks.
Please don’t hesitate to contact our office if you have any concerns about having a tooth filled. We encourage you to give Dr. Blake Dayley a call if you feel pain when biting down on the tooth or you notice any cracks in the tooth enamel or filling.
