Most people have four wisdom teeth. They reside deep in the gums and tend to attempt emergence at some point in late adolescence. Most people lack adequate room in the back of their mouth for the teeth to emerge without complications. The resulting pain and pressure often drives them to have the wisdom teeth extracted.

Even if a wisdom tooth manages to emerge without a problem, it will still need to be brushed and flossed like any other tooth in your mouth. This can be a challenge as wisdom teeth are so far back in the mouth that they’re hard to reach. This increases the chances of you developing gum disease, tooth decay, a cyst or a dangerous gum infection.

To prevent these complications, your oral surgeon, Dr. Blake Dayley, often recommends having an emergent wisdom tooth extracted.

This is a minimally invasive course of treatment that can be performed in a single outpatient appointment. You will need to be sedated for your own comfort during the extraction. Afterward, you’ll need to arrange to have a friend or family member drive you home.

If you need one or all of your wisdom teeth removed in Boise, Idaho, you should call 208-321-1141 to schedule an appointment at Dayley Family Dental.
